Basketball Recap: Rock Hills Falls Short of Troy in the Playoffs

Rock Hills and Troy squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Rock Hills had to settle for second. They took a 43-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Troy Trojans. The Grizzlies' defeat signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.

Rock Hills' loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bethany Simmelink, who posted 16 points and eight boards. The contest was Simmelink's sixth in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Halle Mizner, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 16 rebounds.

Troy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Harper Whetstine, who scored 18 points along with eight steals and seven boards. Whetstine is crushing it when it comes to points: she's scored at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Allie Franken was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to 19 rebounds and three blocks.

Rock Hills' defeat dropped their record down to 17-4. As for Troy, the win (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 21-1.

As of now, neither Rock Hills nor Troy have any future games scheduled.
