Mount Pleasant hasn't had much luck against Monroe recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Tigers are taking a road trip to challenge the Redhawks at 5:30 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
It was a proper cat-fight when Mount Pleasant faced off against Anson on Friday. The Tigers breezed past the Bearcats to the tune of 51-16. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-12.
MacKenzie Clutter had another great game (as she tends to do), putting up 19 points along with eight steals and five rebounds. That makes it seven consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Mount Pleasant's points. Another player making a difference was Daisy Henrie, who posted eight points and three steals.
Mount Pleasant was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Anson only posted three.
Meanwhile, Monroe put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 76-40 victory over Olympic. The Redhawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 30 points or more this season.
Monroe found their leader in sophomore Janiyah Boyd, who almost dropped a triple-double with 32 points, nine boards, and nine assists. Boyd's big performance that evening made it 27 games in a row in which she has scored at least 18 points. Deianna Walters was another key player, going 7-for-13 on her way to 15 points and five steals.
Mount Pleasant's record now sits at 4-5. As for Monroe, their record is now 6-0.

Thursday's matchup will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Clutter and Boyd. Clutter has been dynamite this season: she has averaged 20.7 points, 7.9 steals, and 5.1 rebounds. For her part, Boyd has averaged 31.4 points, 7.4 steals, and 7 assists.
Mount Pleasant couldn't quite finish off Monroe in their previous matchup back in December of 2021 and fell 44-41. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
