Softball Recap: Haywood Victorious

Haywood proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 13) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Bolivar Central Tigers 3-2. The victory continues a trend for the Tomcats in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won three in a row.

Lillian Scott spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kaitlyn Smoot, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI.

Haywood's win bumped their record up to 12-4. As for Bolivar Central, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5.

Coming up, Haywood will face off against Dyer County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Choctaws' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Tomcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Bolivar Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
