Softball Recap: Ponder Wins Going Away Against Life Oak Cliff

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Ponder walked away with it. Everything went their way against Life Oak Cliff on Thursday as they made off with a 19-0 victory. Ponder might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by six runs or more this season.

Vada Cochrum made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Ponder got a massive performance out of Grayson Wells, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. Those two triples gave Wells a new career-high. Harlee Ponce was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.

Ponder kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 11-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Ponder's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.7 runs over those games. As for Life Oak Cliff, with the loss, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-10-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Ponder beat Life Oak Cliff by a score of 15-0 on Friday.
