Basketball Recap: Helias Takes a Loss

Helias saw some tournament action on Wednesday. They took a 71-55 bruising from the Iberia Rangers.

Iberia's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaylyn Piggott led the charge by going 8 for 15 on her way to 22 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance gave Piggott a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexa Rowden, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds.

Helias' defeat dropped their record down to 2-3. As for Iberia, their record is now 6-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Helias will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Smith-Cotton at 5:30 p.m. on January 9, 2025. After both having extra time off, Iberia and Laquey will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 6:00 p.m. on January 2, 2025.
