Preview: Udall Eagles vs. Central Raiders
Udall and Central are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Udall Eagles are on the road again on Friday and plays the Central Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on February 9th. Hopefully Udall focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Tuesday.
Even though Udall has not done well against West Elk recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way. Udall walked away with a 45-33 victory over West Elk.
Emma Alberts and Lilly Hoffman were among the main playmakers for Udall as the former scored eight points along with nine rebounds and four blocks and the latter went 6 for 7 from beyond the arc en route to 22 points and 0 assists. That makes it four consecutive games in which Hoffman has scored at least a third of Udall's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayl Knapp, who scored nine points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Central had to suffer through a rough 53-16 loss at the hands of Flinthills. While losing is never fun, Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 336th, while Flinthills is ranked 139th).
Udall's victory bumped their record up to 6-11. As for Central, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12-1 record this season.
Udall couldn't quite finish off Central when the teams last played back in December of 2023 and fell 39-37. Can Udall avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
