Basketball Game Preview: Crater Comets vs. Thurston Colts

Crater and Thurston are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Crater Comets will head out to take on the Thurston Colts at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Crater took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Ashland by a score of 60-49. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Comets as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Thurston hadn't done well against North Eugene recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Thurston strolled past North Eugene with points to spare, taking the game 70-52. That's two games straight that the Colts have won by exactly 18 points.

Thurston's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.3 points per game. As for Crater, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.

Crater came up short against Thurston in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 57-49. Can Crater avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
