Baseball Recap: Springfield Takes a Loss

Springfield lost against Doyle last Monday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Springfield Bulldogs came up short against the Doyle Tigers, falling 11-5. The Bulldogs just can't catch a break and have now endured four defeats in a row.

Brock Cothern and Colt Lirette stepped up to the plate in a big way. Cothern scored two runs while going 4-for-4, while Lirette went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. Springfield is 2-1 when Cothern posts two or more runs, but 6-10 otherwise. Will Sanders was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Springfield's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Doyle, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-14-1 record this season.

Springfield will venture away from home to challenge Independence at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Doyle, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Doyle Tigers take on French Settlement Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
