Baseball Recap: Clarksdale Has No Trouble Against West Point

Clarksdale not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since February 27th. They put the hurt on the West Point Green Wave with a sharp 7-1 win. This was a revenge game for the Wildcats: when they faced off against the Green Wave last Tuesday, they had to take a 6-3 loss.

Rhymes Chess spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 15 Ks. Those 15 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tyrese Lewis, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one triple. Clarksdale is 2-1 when Lewis posts two or more runs, but 4-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of James Washington, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Clarksdale's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 6-9. As for West Point, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 13 of their last 16 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-16 record this season.

Clarksdale has already played their next matchup (against Water Valley), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for West Point, they will square off against Pontotoc at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
