Baseball Game Preview: Greenfield/Northwestern Tigers vs. Staunton Bulldogs

The Greenfield/Northwestern Tigers will face off against the Staunton Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Greenfield/Northwestern will be strutting in after a victory while Staunton will be coming in after a defeat.

It was a proper cat-fight when Greenfield/Northwestern faced off against Camp Point Central on Friday. The Tigers had just enough and edged out the Panthers 9-7.

The team relied heavily on Talon Albrecht, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Brock Bowman was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Greenfield/Northwestern hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Camp Point Central struck out nine times.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 15 runs the game before, Staunton was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Civic Memorial.

Staunton has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-12-1 record this season. As for Greenfield/Northwestern, the win got them back to even at 12-12.

Greenfield/Northwestern's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's match. The Tigers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Staunton, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Greenfield/Northwestern continue to outrun the ball?

Greenfield/Northwestern came up short against Staunton in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, falling 4-0. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
