There's no place like home for Kewanee, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Mercer County Golden Eagles on Thursday, sneaking past 2-1. For the Boilermakers, this counts as revenge for the 2-0 victory the Golden Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2024.

Kewanee had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 21-25, 25-16, 25-15.

Bailey VanWinkle paced Kewanee's offense, picking up eight kills. VanWinkle got some help from Macee Pickering and her 14 assists. Finally, Damaris Diaz kept Kewanee's defense grounded, leading the team with four blocks.

Mercer County's loss came despite strong showings from Lilli Nylin and Emily Hessman. Nylin had 13 digs and two assists, while Hessman had 12 digs.

The win got Kewanee back to even at 7-7. As for Mercer County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.

Kewanee wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 2-0 victory against Mendota on the 23rd. As for Mercer County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-1 loss against Henry-Senachwine on the 20th.
