Basketball Recap: Escondido Adventist Academy Starts Season with Defeat at Home + How To Watch

Escondido Adventist Academy unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a 45-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the San Diego Academy Cavaliers on Thursday. The Hawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cavaliers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.

Despite the loss, Escondido Adventist Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Zach Baker shot 41% from the field to rack up 18 points along with six boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Jung, who posted seven points.

San Diego Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caleb Lindquist, who went 5-for-8 en route to 11 points. Lindquist has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Story Avitia was another key player, dropping a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds.

San Diego Academy has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Coincidentally, Escondido Adventist Academy and San Diego Academy will both be playing Horizon Prep the next time they take the court. The Cavaliers will head out to face the Lions at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, while the Hawks will host them at 6:00 p.m. on December 2.
