Baseball Game Preview: Oakwood Comets vs. Salt Fork Storm

The Oakwood Comets will head out to square off against the Salt Fork Storm at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Salt Fork took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Oakwood, who comes in off a win.

Oakwood took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They came out on top against Seeger by a score of 8-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Oakwood got a great performance from Cam Harris as he pitched five innings while giving up four earned runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Chase Harrison and Bryson Marcinko did most of the damage at the plate: Harrison went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Marcinko got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Marcinko has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Dudley, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.

Oakwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 15 runs the game before, Salt Fork was a bit more limited in their match on Wednesday. They lost 11-0 to Monticello. The game marked the first time this season in which the Storm were not able to get on the board.

Oakwood is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Salt Fork, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.

Oakwood skirted past Salt Fork 5-4 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Comets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
