Custer County starts No. 1, hopes to repeat as Class A champions.

Montana returns to the gridiron Aug. 27 to kick off the 2020 season. Defending state Class A champion Custer County arrives back as the No. 1 team in the state after going 10-0 last season and outscoring opponents by an average score of 39-8.

The Cowboys ranked sixth in the MaxPreps most dominant Montana teams over the past decade, after winning two state titles in that span and twice being ranked No. 1 in the state, 2010 and 2019.

Laurel is the No. 2 team in the state preseason rankings after finishing 8-2 last season and giving up 87 points with four shutouts.

Third-ranked Manhattan/Manhattan Christian will have a tough time duplicating last season's 11-1 campaign that included a 24.1 point differential.
