Softball Game Preview: Freeburg Midgets vs. Alton Redbirds

The Freeburg Midgets will take on the Alton Redbirds at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Freeburg's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Alton has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.

On Saturday, Freeburg came up short against Tolono Unity and fell 10-7.

Meanwhile, Alton can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Granite City, sneaking past 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Redbirds have posted since May 10, 2024.

Makenzie Rayfield spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Alton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lilly Henkhaus, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Laci Fischer also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Freeburg's loss dropped their record down to 13-11. As for Alton, their victory bumped their record up to 6-18.
