After a string of five wins, Anderson County's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Union County Patriots by a score of 5-4. The Mavericks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Patriots earlier this season, when they won 8-3.

Clay Fletcher was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Trent Strickland was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Nolan Benson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Anderson County's loss dropped their record down to 17-6. As for Union County, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-11-1 record this season.

Anderson County will venture away from home to face off against Powell at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Union County, they will square off against North Gwinnett at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
