Baseball Recap: Firth Takes a Loss

Firth was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Payette Pirates. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2022.

Grant Vasquez was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brycen Andersen, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Firth's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Payette, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-3.

Looking ahead, Firth will face off against Cole Valley Christian at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Firth's pitchers better be ready for this one: Cole Valley Christian has averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Payette, they will challenge Marsing at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Marsing's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Payette's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
