Softball Game Preview: Parma Panthers vs. Nampa Christian Trojans

The Parma Panthers are taking a road trip to face off against the Nampa Christian Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Parma sitting on six straight wins and Nampa Christian on eight.

On Monday, Parma was able to grind out a solid victory over Marsing, taking the game 7-2.

Meanwhile, Nampa Christian won against West Side on Saturday with 16 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. Everything went the Trojans' way against Melba as they made off with a 16-1 win. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by seven runs or more this season.

Peyton Shook made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ashlynn Swank was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Gray, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Nampa Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Melba only posted an OBP of .250.

Nampa Christian's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Parma, their record now sits at 13-2.

Parma skirted past Nampa Christian 4-3 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
