Softball Game Preview: Parkview Vikings vs. Delavan-Darien Comets

The Parkview Vikings will venture away from home to square off against the Delavan-Darien Comets at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Parkview is looking for their season's first victory.

Parkview couldn't beat South Beloit on Saturday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fourth inning. The Vikings lost 17-7 to the Sobos. On the bright side, the seven- run effort marked the Vikings' highest-scoring matchup to date.

Mariah Roden was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and eight unearned) runs off six hits. Roden was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. She also put up a hit, which was her first of the season.

Roden wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Abby Farnsworth, who went 1-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. With that strong performance, Farnsworth is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Makenna Phillips was another, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Delavan-Darien fell victim to Badger and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Badgers, falling 15-0. The Comets haven't had much luck with the Badgers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Parkview's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Delavan-Darien, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
