Baseball Game Preview: Cape Hatteras Hurricanes vs. Eastern Christian HomeSchool Trailblazers

The Cape Hatteras Hurricanes will head out to square off against the Eastern Christian HomeSchool Trailblazers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Cape Hatteras made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Columbia, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Hurricanes put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 15-5 win on Monday. The Hurricanes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by seven runs or more this season.

Trae Wyatt made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with five RBI and two runs. Cape Hatteras is undefeated when Wyatt posts three or more RBI, but 6-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, Cape Hatteras let Wyatt Cannon and Mikie Gavetti run wild. Cannon scored three runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Gavetti scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Those three runs gave Cannon a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Landen Sonnier, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Meanwhile, Eastern Christian HomeSchool sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over Bethel Christian Academy two weeks ago. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Trailblazers.

Cape Hatteras is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Eastern Christian HomeSchool, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-3.

Cape Hatteras might still be hurting after the 6-0 loss they got from Eastern Christian HomeSchool when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Hurricanes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
