Basketball Recap: Polytechnic Comes Up Short

Polytechnic suffered their biggest defeat since January 25th on Monday. They came up short against the Downey Vikings, falling 64-40.

Downey's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew Topete, who shot 63% from the field en route to 17 points. Thanks to that strong game, Topete now owns an excellent 45.7% shooting accuracy. Another player making a difference was Shane Costello, who went 5-for-11 on his way to 13 points and five boards.

Polytechnic's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Downey, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Polytechnic wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, an 87-22 win against New West Charter on the 25th. As for Downey, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 70-53 victory against Gardena on the 25th.
