Basketball Game Preview: Mount de Sales Academy Cavaliers vs. Schley County Wildcats

Mount de Sales Academy and Schley County are an even 3-3 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Mount de Sales Academy Cavaliers will finish 2024 at home by hosting the Schley County Wildcats at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Schley County took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Mount de Sales Academy, who comes in off a win.

Mount de Sales Academy took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They came out on top against Strong Rock Christian by a score of 53-42. While the Cavaliers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Payton Latimer was the offensive standout of the contest as she dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 boards. Latimer is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Julia Bonbrake, who posted ten points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Mount de Sales Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Schley County ended up a good deal behind Randolph-Clay on Friday and lost 49-30. The match marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Mount de Sales Academy pushed their record up to 7-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.2 points per game. As for Schley County, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
