Softball Recap: Eastern Musketeers vs. Brownstown Central Braves
Eastern had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 0-4 to make it four. They lost 23-2 to the Brownstown Central Braves. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Musketeers of the 11-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.
Eastern saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ivy Dixon, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
As for Brownstown Central, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-2. That 21-run margin sets a new team best for them this season.
On Brownstown Central's side, Shyla Steele made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Steele has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Those hits were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Brownstown Central got a massive performance out of Lyla Huffman, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs and one stolen base. Those four runs gave Huffman a new career-high. Rylee McCammon also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Eastern wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 16-1 defeat against Providence on the 15th. As for Brownstown Central, they have also already played their next contest, a 1-0 victory against West Washington on the 13th.
