With a playoff win on the line, Cottondale rose to the challenge on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past the Sneads Pirates 4-3. Winning may never get old, but the Hornets sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.

Lane Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Cottondale is 5-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 9-10 otherwise.

At the plate, Tyler Jones was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Trace Pelfrey was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Cottondale's win bumped their record up to 14-11. As for Sneads, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 19-7 record this season.

As of now, neither Cottondale nor Sneads have any future games scheduled.
