Softball Recap: Granite City Takes a Loss

Granite City had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 7-14 to make it four. They lost 10-3 to the Jersey Panthers. If the Warriors were looking for revenge after losing 12-1 to the Panthers when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Granite City saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Milyn Roehr, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

As for Jersey, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-11-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

On Jersey's side, Paxton Weirich made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over 6.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Weirich has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chloe Beemer, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Lily Wilkinson, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Coming up, Granite City will square off against Cahokia at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Comanches have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.69 runs per game on average), something the Warriors will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Jersey, they will welcome Waterloo at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
