Softball Game Preview: Nicholas County Bluejackets vs. Augusta Panthers

Nicholas County is a perfect 4-0 against Augusta since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Bluejackets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. Augusta took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Nicholas County, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with five losses in a row, Nicholas County turned things around against Robertson County on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Black Devils a 15-0 shutout. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bluejackets considering their one-run performance the contest before.

Caroline Banks was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Hannah Watkins was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Nicholas County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Augusta was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 16th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 18-3 to Lewis County.

Nicholas County's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 5-19. As for Augusta, their loss dropped their record down to 0-14.

Nicholas County took their victory against Augusta when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 16-0 score. Will the Bluejackets repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
