Basketball Recap: Palmetto's Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

If Homestead wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Palmetto, they should've done a better job of containing Santiago Henriquez. The Palmetto Panthers managed a 73-69 win over the Homestead Broncos on Tuesday thanks in part to Henriquez, who posted 36 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. His evening made it 24 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

Samfree Sarante was another key player, putting up six points and six boards. He has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played.

Homestead lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Tavaris Slaton, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance gave Slaton a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Rodney Holmes, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 boards.

With the victory, Palmetto broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 13-9. As for Homestead, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-8.

Palmetto didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 66-62 defeat against Miami Country Day on the 29th. As for Homestead, they will square off against Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Homestead is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 65.2 points per game this season.
