Basketball Recap: Broomfield Takes Down Thunderridge in a Playoff Battle

Broomfield had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They blew past the ThunderRidge Grizzlies 61-36 on Saturday. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 matches by 22 points or more this season.

Broomfield's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Reece Gilpatrick, who went 6-for-13 to rack up 16 points in addition to seven assists and four steals. Those seven assists gave Gilpatrick a new career-high. Olivia Kim was another key player, shooting 78% from the field en route to 18 points.

Broomfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Broomfield pushed their record up to 23-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.6 points on average over those games. As for ThunderRidge, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-13.

Coming up, it'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Eagles take on the Ravens at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Riverdale Ridge knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Broomfield likes a good challenge. ThunderRidge does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
