Softball Recap: Straughn Triumphs

Straughn had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt New Brockton on Thursday. The Tigers' pitchers stepped up to hand the Gamecocks an 8-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Gamecocks: they've now won seven in a row.

Julia Harold made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Sammie Strickland looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.

Back at the plate, Adelaide Dunn was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Annlee Wise, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Straughn now has a winning record of 14-13. As for New Brockton, their defeat was their ninth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-19.

Looking ahead, Straughn will venture away from home to take on McKenzie at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. New Brockton will be paying especially close attention to the Tigers' contest: after the Tigers faces off against Pike County, they'll take on New Brockton again at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
