Basketball Recap: Armstrong Takes a Loss

Armstrong's tournament run continued when they took on Southern on Saturday. The Armstrong River Hawks fell just short of the Southern Rams by a score of 57-55. While losing is never fun, the River Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 489th in Pennsylvania, while the Rams are ranked 164th in Maryland).

Southern had a senior duo take command as Jared Haskiell went 8 of 15 on his way to 26 points and Brayden Upole posted 14 points and five assists. That makes it four consecutive games in which Haskiell has scored at least a third of Southern's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Graham Harvey, who had six points.

Armstrong's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Southern, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-2.

Armstrong will be playing in front of their home fans against Kiski Area at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Armstrong is facing Kiski Area at the right time seeing as Kiski Area is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Southern, they will head out on the road to face off against Allegany at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
