Basketball Preview: Chino Valley Cougars vs. Camp Verde Cowboys
Chino Valley has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Camp Verde Cowboys at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Chino Valley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 246th, while the Cowboys are ranked 94th).
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 64-26, which was the final score in Chino Valley's tilt against the Crusaders on Friday. Chino Valley has not had much luck with the Crusaders recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Meanwhile, Camp Verde stacked a tenth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They breezed by Wickenburg on the road to the tune of 56-26. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Camp Verde.
It was another big night for Rachel Roderick, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Wa'siiva Lewis, who scored ten points.
Chino Valley has not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for Camp Verde, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season.
Chino Valley was taken down by the Cowboys 55-9 in their previous matchup back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Roderick, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten steals.
