Baseball Game Preview: Palmer Terrors vs. Widefield Gladiators

For the second straight game, Palmer will face off against Widefield. The Terrors will square off against the Gladiators at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Palmer has struggled recently with seven defeats in a row, while Widefield will arrive with six straight victories.

Palmer lost 11-1 to Widefield on Tuesday.

For Widefield's part, Liam Gordon made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and not a single walk). Gordon has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Brody Gizzi and Nick Prantl did most of the damage at the plate: Gizzi went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Prantl went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Prantl has become a key player for Widefield: the team is 8-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-6 otherwise. Zane Cleaton was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Widefield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in five consecutive games.

Widefield's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-7. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Palmer, their loss dropped their record down to 3-15.
