Basketball Recap: Maxwell Wildcats vs. Maywood/Hayes Center Wolves
If Maxwell was riding high fresh off their 55-26 takedown of Hitchcock County last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Maxwell Wildcats were dealt a 67-39 loss at the hands of the Maywood/Hayes Center Wolves on Monday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 72-32 two weeks ago.

Despite the defeat, Maxwell had strong showings from Kristyn Cheek, who went 8 for 12 on her way to 23 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals, and Emory Christensen, who posted seven points along with eight boards and three steals. That's the most points Cheek has posted since back in February of 2024.
Maywood/Hayes Center found their leader in sophomore Caylie Softley, who went 10 of 14 en route to 22 points along with seven steals and five assists. The match was Softley's third in a row with at least ten points. Karissa Stengel was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten assists.
Maxwell's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-9. As for Maywood/Hayes Center, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 16-2.
Maxwell wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 38-37 defeat against Dundy County-Stratton on the 30th. Maywood/Hayes Center has also already played their next game, a 47-24 win against Paxton on the 30th.
