Soccer Game Preview: Tompkins vs. Stratford

The Tompkins Falcons will square off against the Stratford Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Tompkins sitting on five straight victories and Stratford on 17.

Tompkins is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Their defense stepped up to hand Fort Bend Austin a 1-0 shutout. Given Tompkins' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 36th, while Fort Bend Austin are ranked 332nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Stratford won against Jordan on Tuesday with three goals and they decided to stick to that goal total again on Thursday. Stratford was the clear victor by a 3-0 margin over Kingwood. Stratford might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 17 games by three goals or more this season.

Tompkins pushed their record up to 21-2-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 23 goals over those five contests. As for Stratford, their win bumped their record up to 20-2-3.
