Baseball Game Preview: Escondido Cougars vs. Ramona Bulldogs

For the second straight game, Escondido will face off against Ramona. The Cougars will host the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Escondido 2.7, Ramona 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Escondido barely beat Ramona the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 10-3 win on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won six matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Ronnie Witt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Escondido got a big performance out of Makaih Gonzalez, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits Gonzalez has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryder Taylor, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Escondido is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. As for Ramona, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-7.
