            Baseball Recap: Newton Eagles vs. Mattoon Greenwave        
        
		
        
        
            Mattoon hit Newton with a seven-run seventh inning  on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles fell just short of the Greenwave by a score of  8-6. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Greenwave apparently hadn't forgotten their  defeat the last time these teams played  back in April of 2024.
 Newton saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was  Kohlten Barthelme, who  went 2-for-3 with one  RBI. Another  was  Quincy Fulton, who  earned two  runs and one  stolen base.
Newton has  been struggling recently as they've  lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-14 record  this season. As for Mattoon, they are  on a roll lately: they've  won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-13 record  this season.
 Both  teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newton will head out to  challenge Farina South Central  at 4:30  p.m.  on Monday. As for Mattoon, they will venture away from home to  face off against Salem  at 4:30  p.m.  on Tuesday.
