The Horizon Honors Eagles will face off against the Tempe Prep Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Horizon Honors' favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Tempe Prep has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Horizon Honors and Phoenix Country Day have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Thursday. Horizon Honors fell 6-1 to Phoenix Country Day.
Horizon Honors saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aidan Andrews, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Chase Wilson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Tempe Prep played in-conference for the first time on Thursday and got just the result they were looking for. They came out on top against ALA - Anthem South by a score of 5-2. The victory was some much needed relief for the Knights as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.
Will Drescher spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Carlos Gastelum, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Sampson, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-4.
Horizon Honors' loss dropped their record down to 8-4-1. As for Tempe Prep, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-7.
Tempe Prep's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Horizon Honors has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .431. It's a different story for Tempe Prep, though, as they've only averaged .276. Will they be able to contain Horizon Honors' hitters?
