The South Spartans are taking a road trip to take on the Immanuel Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. South is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.6 runs per game this season.
South is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They blew past San Luis Obispo 15-5. Considering the Spartans have won 18 games by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Sienna Lopez made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up five earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one double.
South kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in 13 consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Immanuel was able to grind out a solid win over Golden Valley on Wednesday, taking the game 6-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.
Ella Renney spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits.
At the plate, Immanuel saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ellyann Thomas, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple was Thomas' first of the season. Another was Natalia Delgadillo, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
South's record now sits at 23-6. As for Immanuel, their record is now 13-10.
Immanuel's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. South has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Immanuel, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 strikeouts. Will South keep running through batters, or will the Eagles buck the trend?
