Basketball Recap: D'angelo Hundley's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Momence over Hoopeston

If Momence was riding high fresh off their 69-44 takedown of Donovan last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Momence Momence Athletics lost to the Hoopeston Cornjerkers on the road by a 67-48 margin on Monday. The Momence Athletics were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cornjerkers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2019.

Momence lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was D'Angelo Hundley, who posted 11 points and six rebounds. Austin Lynch was another key player, putting up 11 points and five boards.

Hoopeston's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cole Miller led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Trenton Montez, who on his way to 17 points along with five assists and four steals.

Momence has been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 13 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-17 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points over those games. Hoopeston pushed their record up to 19-12 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Momence does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hoopeston, they will be playing at home against Paxton-Buckley-Loda at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hoopeston is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.5 points per game this season.
