Baseball Recap: Notre Dame Makes It Six in a Row on the Road

Notre Dame won the last time they faced Elba and things went their way on Monday too. The Fighting Irish blew past the Lancers 6-0. The result was nothing new for the Fighting Irish, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Evan Fitzpatrick was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 12 games.

In other batting news, Chase Antinore was excellent, going 2-for-4 with four stolen bases and one run. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Charles Cummings, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Notre Dame pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Elba, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.

Looking ahead, Notre Dame will be playing in front of their home fans against School of the Arts at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Elba does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
