Baseball Game Preview: Hico Tigers vs. Lipan Indians

The Hico Tigers will square off against the Lipan Indians at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hico is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.

On Friday, Hico didn't have quite enough to beat Graford and fell 9-8.

Meanwhile, Lipan hadn't done well against Santo recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Indians never let the Wildcats get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Chris Collins made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Evan Lott was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. He has been hot, having also posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Brayden Harrison, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.

Lipan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in seven consecutive games.

Lipan is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Hico, their loss dropped their record down to 5-9-1.

Hico suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Lipan in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
