Football Game Preview: Greenwich Cardinals vs. West Haven Blue Devils

The Greenwich Cardinals will square off against the West Haven Blue Devils at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both have allowed few points on average, (Greenwich: 10.1, West Haven: 11.1) so any points scored will be well earned.

Greenwich is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Sunday. Their defense stepped up to hand Staples a 14-0 shutout. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cardinals.

Greenwich's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Hector Lopez, who rushed for 110 yards and one touchdown, and Blake Martin, who picked up 115 receiving yards and one touchdown. With that strong performance, Lopez is now averaging an impressive 100.2 rushing yards per game.

Meanwhile, West Haven hadn't done well against Fairfield Prep recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Sunday. West Haven simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Fairfield Prep 42-7. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won nine games by 21 points or more so far this season.

Greenwich has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 7.7 points per game. As for West Haven, their victory bumped their record up to 10-2.

Saturday's contest might be decided in the on the ground. Greenwich has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 168.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like West Haven struggles in that department as they've been averaging 229.3 rushing yards. It's looking like Saturday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.

Greenwich strolled past West Haven in their previous matchup back in September by a score of 24-6. Will Greenwich repeat their success, or does West Haven have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
