Volleyball Game Preview: San Ysidro Cougars vs. Chula Vista Spartans

The San Ysidro Cougars will face off against the Chula Vista Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Chula Vista took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on San Ysidro, who comes in off a win.

San Ysidro will bounce into Friday's match after beating Orange Glen, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. The Cougars came out on top against the Patriots by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.

The final score came out to 25-16, 25-27, 25-19, 25-19.

Kaylie Gutierrez was the offensive standout of the contest as she had eight aces and six digs. Those eight aces gave her a new career-high.

Gutierrez wasn't the only good servers: San Ysidro was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 21 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least 12 aces in ten consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Chula Vista was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Castle Park.

The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 18-25, 25-7, 25-16.

San Ysidro's win bumped their record up to 17-12. As for Chula Vista, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-17.

Everything went San Ysidro's way against Chula Vista in their previous matchup back in September, as San Ysidro made off with a 3-0 victory. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
