Basketball Recap: Sunset Comes Up Short

Sunset lost against Varela back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Sunset Knights fell just short of the Varela Vipers by a score of 45-43. While the Knights didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Vipers 12-7 in the first quarter.

Despite the loss, Sunset still got an impressive performance from Brandon Luis, who went 8 of 11 en route to 20 points. Luis' evening made it nine games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jonathan Clarke, who posted 11 points.

Varela's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alex Perez, who went 6 for 8 on his way to 14 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Reyes, who scored 13 points and six boards.

Sunset's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Varela, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.

Sunset didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 71-52 loss against TERRA Environmental on the 14th. Varela has also already played their next game, a 52-51 defeat against Southwest on the 14th.
