Baseball Recap: Raymond Central Comes Up Short

Raymond Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Auburn Bulldogs. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Hunter Sykes was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. He also brought in two RBI, marking his first of the season.

Sykes wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tucker Matulka, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Adam Jamison also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Raymond Central's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Auburn, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-5.

Raymond Central has already played their next match, a 16-5 loss against Central City/Centura on the 8th. As for Auburn, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-3 victory against Falls City on the 8th.
