Basketball Recap: Hinkley Thunder vs. Kennedy Commanders
Hinkley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 23rd straight loss dating back to last season. They took a 60-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Kennedy Commanders. The Thunder were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Commanders apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Hinkley still got an impressive performance from Malachi Holden, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 17 boards. With that strong performance, Holden is now averaging an impressive 8.2 rebounds per game. Another player making a difference was Jazae Pogue, who posted eight points.
Even though they lost, Hinkley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kennedy only seven offensive boards.
Kennedy was led to victory by Anthony Zink and Quinn Padilla. Zink went 11-for-17 en route to 28 points and six boards, while Padilla went 5-for-9 to rack up 14 points in addition to eight steals and five rebounds. What's more, Zink also posted a 65% shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Isaac Trujillo was another key player, putting up two points along with nine assists and three steals.
Hinkley's loss dropped their record down to 0-20. As for Kennedy, their record is now 4-17.
Coming up, Hinkley will take on Greeley West at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hinkley is facing Greeley West at the right time seeing as Greeley West is stuck on a 17-game losing streak. As for Kennedy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 40-33 defeat against Lincoln on the 21st.
