Soccer Recap: Escondido Comes Up Short

Escondido managed to keep up with Valley Center until halftime on Thursday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Escondido Cougars came up short against the Valley Center Jaguars, falling 5-0. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Cougars came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 118th, while the Jaguars are ranked 651st).

Escondido was without their leading scorer, David Ortiz, in Thursday's game. With Ortiz sitting this one out, Edgar Flores got some extra time on the pitch (80 vs. his season average of 56.1).

Escondido's defeat dropped their record down to 16-3. As for Valley Center, their win bumped their record up to 4-8.

As of now, neither Escondido nor Valley Center have any future games scheduled.
