Basketball Game Preview: Iowa City West Trojans vs. Waterloo West Wahawks

The Iowa City West Trojans will venture away from home to square off against the Waterloo West Wahawks at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Iowa City West is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Dubuque Senior just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 52-51 to the Rams.

Meanwhile, Waterloo West waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They beat the Lightning by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 78-73. Given the Wahawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 57th, while the Lightning are ranked 234th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Waterloo West pushed their record up to 7-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.0 points per game. As for Iowa City West, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.

Iowa City West strolled past Waterloo West when the teams last played back in January of 2024 by a score of 64-45. The rematch might be a little tougher for Iowa City West since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
