Basketball Recap: Riverton Parke Takes a Loss

Riverton Parke was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They lost to the South Vermillion Wildcats on the road by a 72-57 margin. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (55), the Panthers still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Riverton Parke saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jonah Hopkins on his way to 26 points and six rebounds. The contest was Hopkins' third in a row with at least 18 points. Collett Sanders was another key player, putting up nine points and three steals.

South Vermillion's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Aden Wallace led the charge by to rack up 25 points along with five assists and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Wallace has scored at least a third of South Vermillion's points. Another player making a difference was Dallas Coleman, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards.

Riverton Parke's defeat dropped their record down to 7-14. As for South Vermillion, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-10 record this season.

Riverton Parke will square off against West Vigo at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for South Vermillion, they have already played their next game, a 68-58 win against Covington on the 22nd.
