Softball Recap: Valparaiso Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Portage, Valparaiso was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Highland Trojans 14-12. The Vikings' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Elizabeth Kosek was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Maddie Horka was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Valparaiso was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .405. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive games.

Valparaiso's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Highland, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Trojans beat Valparaiso by a score of 7-5 later that day.
